AUSTRALIAN COUNCIL FOR THE DEFENCE OF
GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS
Press Release 967
NSW PUBLIC EDUCATION PARTY
11 February 2023
On 6 February 2023 the Public Education Party of NSW launched their political campaign with a view to obtaining an upper house seat in the Legislative Council of NSW.
This party has been formed by strong advocates for public education led by Jane Caro together with the Reason Party of New South Wales. Their political objectives are not dissimilar to that of the DOGS which were formed in NSW in 1969. However, their stance on the State Aid issue is more ambiguous than that of the DOGS. For example, they finish their manifesto as follows:
SECULAR PUBLIC EDUCATION
Position: Public Education Party recognises Independent, Catholic and faith-based schools exist in our education community. Public Education Party advocates that the local public school and educational setting is the preferred school for young people, the fabric of the community and social capital. Public Education Party defends the Gonski model in principle as the preferred and agreed to fairer resourcing model.
Does this mean they accept or question or reject State Aid for the private sector?
