AUSTRALIAN COUNCIL FOR THE DEFENCE OF GOVERNMENT
SCHOOLS
PRESS RELEASE 793
TRY — FAIL. TRY AGAIN — FAIL BETTER.
The election result was disappointing for supporters of public education. The election of a Morrison Government means that educational as well as economic and social inequality will be further entrenched throughout Australia.
However, in the current global and political climate, the Messiah from the Shire may have been delivered a poison chalice. We were told - “It’s the economy not the climate stupid! But the reality is that both may strike. They are not going to disappear like the mistaken election poll.
And, as Correna Haythorpe from the AEU noted, the fact that the Federal Coalition had to put signs up on polling booths about school funding showed the Fair Funding Campaign was successful in making school funding a key election issue.
The AEU have announced that they will never give up until they win fair funding for public schools.
Their problem is that the private religious schools have never played fair.
So DOGS have never given up obtaining sole public funding for public schools, because this is the only way to obtain fair funding for public schools.
We have tried many times – and, since 1964, failed where our nineteenth century predecessors were successful. So, since we are in it for the cause and the long haul. We try again, fail again and fail better.
Or, to put it another way, if you attempt what appears to be impossible, you cannot fail.
